Tia's Case Study
Instructions:
1. Read the background information on Tia below.
2. Choose the case study role which most closely matches your role
on the collaborative team. If there are not enough roles, assume
the role of impartial observer and be prepared to give team members
some feedback on the team meeting process and outcomes.
3. Read only your case study.
4. Take 5-10 minutes to read over your role and formulate some
questions or ideas before the team meeting. Some information in
your case study has been intentionally vaguely described. Feel free
to embellish this information as long as the new information is
consistent with that given.
5. Hold a 20 minute team meeting forming a plan for Tia.
6. Spend 15 minutes completing the Team
Meeting Checklist and evaluating the effectiveness or progress
of the team meeting.
Total time allowed: 45 minutes.
Tia's Background Information:
Tia attends a private preschool from 9:00 to 11:30 three days a
week. There are 18 children in the classroom including Tia. There
is a preschool teacher an assistant teacher and a facilitator who
addresses tasks such as diapering, suctioning and assisting Tia
from one place to another.
Tia has spina bifida, a tracheostomy and some special medical needs.
Currently Tia receives speech therapy for 20 minutes 2 times a week.
The doctor has suggested Tia do breathing and speech exercises for
20 - 30 minutes every day. Tia receives OT 2 days a week for 20
minutes each. She also has a home health nurse visit for 4 hours
on Thursdays. The ECSE teacher visits and consults with the preschool
teacher every Monday for 1 hour.
